INRI is an acronym of the Latin inscription
IESVS·NAZARENVS·REX·IVDÆORVM (Jesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum),
which translates to English as "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews." The
acronym commonly appears in Catholic churches above the crucifix in front of
the church. Crucifixes are not taught in the Bible.
The major problem with crucifixes in the Catholic religion is the demonic teaching of the Mass that underlies the use of crucifixes in Catholicism. Catholics are taught that Jesus DIES again at every Mass ceremony. It is known theologically as the doctrine of “TRANSUBSTANTIATION.” This false doctrine of the Catholic Church teaches that the wafer and wine consumed at Mass literally turn into the physical flesh and blood of Jesus Christ, which supposedly gives to the participant renewed spiritual life and blessing.
This is totally unbiblical. Hebrews 9:12,26, "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." Notice the word, “once.” Jesus became a sacrifice ONCE to take away the sins of mankind. Jesus DOESN'T die again at every Mass. The term “Mass” is NOT a Biblical word. The teaching of Mass is NOT found in the Word of God. It is a purely Catholic manmade doctrine fabricated in 394 A.D. The Bible teaches the ordinance of observing the Lord's Supper, but this is only done in remembrance of Jesus crucifixion; and doesn't in any way involved eating, digesting and eliminating Jesus in the bodily wastes.
There is nothing wrong with saying that Jesus is of Nazareth or that He is the King of the Jews. However, the use of crucifixes as objects of idolatrous worship is sinful. Exodus 20:4,5 forbids worshipping or bowing to any likeness of anything or anyone in Heaven or earth, including the Lord Himself. Jesus never asked us to worship a statue of Him, nor pray to a picture of Him, for it is idolatry to do so.
