I Went To 'Bay Bluffs Park' Today For A Walk
by David J. Stewart | July 2021
John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” 1st John 3:24, “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”
I needed to go for a walk today, to get out of my hotel room. It's been a hectic week. I'm still waiting to hear what's going on with my medical. So far nothing. I called and emailed, but they still haven't responded. I am not going to worry, I'm going to pray and trust the Lord (Philippians 4:6-8) and go for a walk along the ocean to clear my mind.
I found a local place called Bay Bluffs Park not too far from downtown Pensacola. It's about a 20 minute drive from the hotel where I'm staying. It wasn't too big of a place, but quaint. I took off my shirt and soaked up some sun, while walking along the beach and train tracks. It is a quiet area. I saw a few couples walking their dogs. When you get there, you need to walk down a series of wooden staircases and walkways to get down by the waters of the warm Gulf of Mexico.
Pensacola's ocean water is about the same temperature as on Guam, about 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. But in the winter Pensacola's water temperature dips down to a cool 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Guam's water temperature stays at 85 degrees all year. In California, the temperature of the Atlantic ocean is much colder. The summer water temperature in California is about 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter temperature is about 50 degrees. That's chilling!!!
There are so many things that are different in Pensacola compared to Guam. I keep feeling like I forgot my mask, because no one has to wear them anywhere. I love it! I saw some squirrels today! I love squirrels. I am going to buy a bag of walnuts this week to feed them. I took these pictures today at Bay Bluffs Park of some squirrels...
I think squirrels are really cool creatures! God is so more than amazing and awesome!!! My neck was hurting real bad and I needed to lay down when I returned. As I took a nap, I heard hours of beautiful crackling thunder outside. You never hear that on Guam. About once every 6 months you might hear a big crackle of thunder on Guam. But so far in Pensacola it has been raining every day. I read that it rains every hot summer afternoon, and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I love the long, extended, crackling thunder rolls. I watched a PBS documentary today and learned that Florida experiences over ONE MILLION thundering lightning bolts annually. Wow! Florida gets more lighting than any other state. I LOVE IT!!! I was a big meteorology buff as a teenager. If I hadn't gone to Bible college, I would have enrolled into the military and pursued a career in meteorology. Storms fascinate me!
Drivers are more wild here than Guam. One guy laid on the horn at me, upset because I wouldn't blow a yellow light. For some drivers, yellow means to go faster! But for a safe driver like me, yellow means to slow down and stop! Then the guy was angry and rode my bumper, tailgating my vehicle, so I immediately pulled over and let him go, seeing that he had mental issues. I let the hotheads go! I let the weirdoes go! I try to avoid confrontations. There's a lot of angry, worked-up and frustrated people in our American society today. I just stay calm and let them go around me. I drive in the right lane, because I keep the speed limit. Pensacola has some aggressive drivers.
I really love being back in the United States!!! I felt claustrophobic on Guam. God willing, I am planning on going to the Pensacola Interstate Fair in October. I saw a Country Gospel concert coming up at a local Baptist church in August. That looks nice. It will all depend on how I feel when the time comes. I had horrible sharp pain down my left arm today, extending into my two middle fingers. Usually it's the right side of my body, but today the left side was bothering me a lot. I tried to walk as long as I could, but I wore out quick and needed to stop. It feels like I had hit a wall. Sometimes I need to pull over and take a nap in my car, because I feel sleepy. I never know how I will feel from one moment to the next. Pensacola is all new to me, so I am being very careful in unfamiliar territory. Everything from the quirks of driving on the road, to getting my routine in order, to re-establishing my new sleep pattern, it is all a challenge.
But overall things are going well and I thank God for being with me. I am a bit apprehensive what lies ahead, but that is when we need to trust the Lord the most. The world is a messed-up place. I am saddened about the 79 dead bodies unearthed so far in the collapsed East Tower in Surfside, Florida. That is a horrible way to die, in the middle of the night, awakened from restful sleep to being buried alive under tons of debris. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Anyway, here are some cool photos that I took at BAY BLUFFS PARK today...
